Working with Sindy:
My intention in working with individuals and families is to provide a safe place of acceptance and healing. Each of us holds the keys to our own empowerment, yet sometimes it is difficult to access them or to know precisely how we want to use them. Sometimes we need assistance. I seek to partner with you and/or your family in unearthing the blocks to living a productive, peaceful and uplifting life. Together we become detectives – sorting out the meanings and messages behind functional challenges and limiting behaviors, and implementing holistic, gentle ways to address them. I am aware and sensitive to individual needs, and with respectful, supportive care, creative in meeting those needs. Frequently using humor and enthusiasm, I create a safe, culturally sensitive, and compassionate environment in which you and your family can learn and grow.
My focus is to support clients of all ages, and their families, in empowering themselves. Often this means accepting what is not preferred, while exploring opportunities for growth. To do this, I provide HANDLE services, counseling, and family coaching; collaborate with parents, schools and other therapists, supporting people to grow from the inside out.
As a result, individuals feel better about themselves, empowered, learn more easily, communicate better, and families are happier and more peaceful. My work is holistic, respectful, and effective. Discovering Handle:
My work with HANDLE started with my own search for an effective, gentle way to help my daughter who was struggling academically, socially and behaviorally. After witnessing the incredible shifts she made as a result of her HANDLE work, I pursued training and was trained by Judith Bluestone, the founder and creator of the HANDLE approach. In May of 2003 I became a Certified HANDLE Practitioner. In addition to seeing my own clients I am a Certified Supervisor for HANDLE Interns, Certified HANDLE Instructor, and a consultant for The HANDLE Institute. I have served on The HANDLE Institute Board of Directors and operated my practice as Enhanced Learning and Growth Center from 2003-2023. I was instrumental in the creation of an MHSA Innovation Grant to bring HANDLE to underserved communities through several East Bay schools.
Sindy’s Background:
I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio; a Masters of Education with a Specialization in Reading from UCLA and a Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Phillips Graduate Institute. I hold a Clear California teaching credential and have taught elementary through high school students. I have also taught undergraduate courses at John F. Kennedy University.
In addition to maintaining a private practice as a licensed Marriage Family Therapist (MFC28816) for 30 years, I have facilitated self-esteem workshops for children and adults throughout the U.S. and in England. I have also co-authored a book entitled Making the Best of Me, a manual for middle school students aimed at enhancing self-esteem used exclusively by the award winning EduCare Foundation in inner city schools, juvenile halls and other environs.
I live in Northern CA. Both my daughters are happy successful young women pursuing their dreams. I love to read, dance, take long walks in nature, spend time with my family and friends, and be by the beach whenever possible.
